IPL Betting Prediction: Who will win IPL 2022?
Ten national teams will compete in the 2022 Indian Premier League. Now that the IPL 2022 Auction has come and gone, we predict which IPL teams that will perform well in this real competition, not just the fantasy. Below we are going to take a look at each of our ten teams and give you our match prediction astrology into their strengths and weaknesses and see if they are likely to win today. This should help you when you come to make a match IPL prediction on this year's IPL.
Gujarat Titans to Win
The other new team in the 2022 IPL is Gujarat Titans, and we are also looking forward to seeing how they get on in their first season of the IPL. This new team will be coached by Gay Kirsten, who has a pretty poor record in the Indian Premier League with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils. It will be interesting to see whether they gel quickly as a team or play as individuals and end up losing regularly.
GT Strengths
In Rashid Khan they have one of the best T20 bowlers in the world - he has played 311 T20 domestic games and has 435 wickets to his name at an average of 17.40. If they need runs down the order, then Hardik Pandya is just the man to provide them. There is also David Miller, who can hit a cricket ball just as far as anyone else in the cricketing world. They also have Noor Ahmed, who is a young and talented left-arm spinner, and it will interesting to see how he goes, should he get the chance to play.
GT Weaknesses
While they do have a number of quality batsmen, we feel that their batting is a bit thin overall, and that they will be too dependent on their all-rounders for runs. Also, it is still not yet known whether Pandya will be fit to bowl, and this will be a big negative if he is not. Also, the withdrawal of Jason Roy due to mental health issues is not ideal, but Rahmanullah Gurbaz has the quality to succeed at the top of the order.
GT Probable XI
Gill, Gurbaz, Saha, Shankar, Miller, Pandya, Tewatia, Khan, Shami, Ferguson, and Kishore.
GT IPL odds
2.75
Lucknow Super Giants to Win
There are two new teams in the 2022 IPL and one of them is the Lucknow Super Giants. They have Andy Flower and Gautam Gambhir in their coaching staff, and we are really looking forward to seeing how they progress in all the matches coming soon. They had quite a successful 2022 IPL auction, so we would not be too surprised if they cause a big amount of upsets throughout the competition. Use every betting bonus to back them!
LSG Strengths
They have some very good all-rounders in the shape of Deepak Hooda, Jason Holder, Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis. In addition to this, in KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, they have a really reliable opening pair. They have plenty of power in their line-up, so if they are forced to chase a big total, they will have confidence in their ability to do so. Also, if they bat first, they will be confident of putting a score on the board that will put a lot of scoreboard pressure on whoever they are playing against.
LSG Weaknesses
It is fair to say that they are lacking in the spin-bowling department, and if any of their main players get injured, then they do not have top-quality back-up options. For example, Mark Wood is a bowler that will provide them with plenty of quality and can cause all sorts of issues with his pace, but he has had injury issues as of late, and if he picks up an injury, there is nobody to replace his quality.
LSG Probable XI
Rahul, de Kock, Pandey, Stoinis, Hooda, Pandya, Holder, Gowtham, Wood, Khan, and Bishnoi.
LSG IPL odds
4.50
Rajasthan Royals to Win
The Rajasthan Royals won the very first edition of the Indian Premier League, but since then it is safe to say that they have not done very well. In the 11 other editions that they have taken part in, they have finished 8th once, 7th four times, 6th twice, 5th once, 4th twice, and 3rd once. The best that they can probably hope for this time around is a play-off spot, but today IPL prediction websites all comment that there is a chance that they achieve this.
RR Strengths
You will not find a more explosive top order than what the Rajasthan Royals have available to them. The likes of Jos Butler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shimron Hetmeyer is enough to give even the best bowlers sleepless nights. We are particularly looking forward to watching Butler bat because there is nobody better to watch when playing at the top of their game. In Trent Boult, Ravi Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal, they have some top bowlers at their disposal.
RR Weaknesses
We feel that the combo of Riyan Parag and Jimmy Neesham as the fifth and sixth bowling options will leave the Rajasthan Royals will a pretty obvious weak spot. We also think that they will struggle when it comes to bowling at the death - Obed McCoy is probably their best bowler for death bowling, but to get him in the starting XI they will have to leave out a batsman.
RR Probable XI
Buttler, Jaiswal, Padikkal, Samson, Hetmeyer, Parag, Neesham, Ashwin, Chahal, Boult, and Krishna.
RR IPL odds
3.25
Royal Challengers Bangalore to Win
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have never won the IPL title, which is quite surprising considering the fact that they have had quality squads in each previous year of this competition. They made it to the final in 2009, 2011, and 2016, but they ended up on the losing side on all three occasions. They will be hoping that they can go and break their duck this time around, and they do have the personnel to go deep in the tournament, although our IPL bet tips would probably not recommend you bet on them to win the title soon.
RCB Strengths
National cricket team Captain Virat Kohli is no longer their captain and we think that the fact that he will have less pressure on his shoulders is something that will help him relax and get back to scoring the runs that we all know he can score. They also acquired the services of Du Plessis during the auction, and it is likely that he will be their captain. He has captained South Africa, so he definitely knows what he is doing. We think that they have one of the best bowling attacks in the tournament having acquired the services of Josh Haslewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Harshal Patel.
RCB Weaknesses
There is no AB de Villiers for them this time around, so they will be relying on Glenn Maxwell to score the quick runs in the middle order. While Maxwell is a very talented player, he can be a bit hit and miss, which is something that the RCB cannot afford if they are to do well in this competition.
RCB Probable XI
Kohli, du Plessis, Rawat, Maxwell, Lomror, Karthik, Hasaranga, Patel, Ahmed, Siraj, and Hazlewood.
RCB IPL odds
11.00
Delhi Capitals to Win
The Delhi Capitals have never won the Indian Premier League Trophy, but the bookmakers currently have them as one of the strong favourites to win today IPL 15. This is because they did plenty of good work during the auction, and they have a squad that should be able to compete against any team.
DC Strengths
Their main strength is the fact that they have a dynamic opening pair in the form of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. Their opponents will want to send these two back to the hutch as quickly as possible because if they bat throughout the powerplay, they will get their team off to a flier. Even if one of the openers gets out early, Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant will complete the top four. There is also batting depth thanks to Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur.
DC Weaknesses
There is no Kagiso Rabada this time around to bowl alongside Anrich Nortje, and because of this we think that they might find it difficult to pick up early wickets in the Powerplay, which means that their opponents might get off to a flier, and it will be hard for them to stop the momentum.
DC Probable XI
Shaw, Warner, Marsh, Pant, Singh, Powell, Patel, Thakur, Yadav, Nortje, Sakariya.
DC IPL odds:
9.00
Punjab Kings to Win
The Punjab Kings is another team that has never won the Indian Premier League. In the last three seasons they have finished in sixth place, which is frankly pretty rubbish since they have always had a decent squad of players every year. They will be hoping to make it to the play-offs at least this time around and kick on from there. their time is coming soon but our IPL betting tips would not be to bet on them to win today.
PBKS Strengths
They have a good mixture of power hitters and accumulators in their squad. Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal will open the batting for them, and this is an opening pair that should definitely supply them with solidity. The rest of the batting line-up will probably be made up of Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith, and Shahrukh Khan, which gives the Punjab Kings some serious six-hitting capabilities.
PBKS Weaknesses
While they have a quality batting line-up, we think that they are a little bit light in the bowling department, especially when it comes to spin options. All of the onuses will be on Rahul Chahar and while we predict he will not let his side down, he will not be able to drag his team to victory in every game. We think that their bowling unit as a whole will struggle to pick up wickets during the middle overs.
PBKS Probable XI
Agarwal, Dhawan, Bairstow, Livingstone, Angad Bawa, Khan, Smith, Brar, Rabada, Chahar, and Singh.
PBKS IPL odds
50.00
Sunrisers Hyderabad to Win
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have won this title once, picking it up in 2016. They came close again in 2018, but they lost in the final to the Chennai Super Kings. It is safe to say that the 2021 Indian Premier League is something that SRH fans will want to put to the back of their minds and never think about ever again - they finished at the bottom of the table with just three wins to their name from the 14 games that they played. They will be hoping that they can perform a lot better today IPL match after IPL match, unfortunately every cricket match prediction from this betting site will have them finishing bottom of the pile once again.
SRH Strengths
In the 2021 edition, their batting was probably their strongest suit, but in the 2022 edition of the IPL, it is the other way around. They have a really good pace attack thanks to the inclusion of Thangarasu Natarajan, Marco Janssen, Umran Malik, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Also, in Washington Sundar, we truly feel that they have a top-quality all-rounder, and we think that the will have a splendid time with both the bat and the ball.
SRH Weaknesses
Last season they had Rashid Khan, but he has since moved on and they are definitely going to miss his quality. Also, they will have a completely new opening partnership this time around since Warner and Bairstow are now playing for different franchises. Additionally, while Kane Williamson is one of the best batsmen in the world, he is struggling with an elbow injury at present, so this could prevent him from taking his spot at number three.
SRH Probable XI
Tripathi, Phillips, Williamson, Pooran, Sharma, Samad, Shepherd, Sundar, Kumar, Natartajan, Malik.
SRH IPL odds
50.00
Kolkata Knight Riders to Win
The Kolkata Knight Riders won this competition in 2012 and 2014, and they were beaten by the CSK in the 2021 final. They are one of those teams that you can never really fully rule out, no matter what type of odds the bookmakers are offering. However, when you look at their squad for this year, we can comment that we would be surprised if they managed to make it to the play-offs.
KKR Strengths
In Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, the Kolkata Knight Riders have a mystery spin duo that have the potential to cause plenty of issues for opposing batsmen. Many think that Alex Hales was a panic buy, but it could have ended up being a top buy because he is full of quality. However, he withdrew for personal reasons and was replaced by Aaron Finch, who will bring quality and experience to their top order.
KKR Weaknesses
They do not have a first-choice wicket-keeper, and we feel that they are lacking pace options for the Powerplay and during the death. Pat Cummins is a quality fast bowler, but he will not be able to do it all by himself. Also, if any players from their probable XI get injured, we are not sure that they have the squad depth to replace them like for like.
KKR Probable XI
V. Iyer, Finch, S. Iyer, Rana, Jackson, Russell, Cummins, Narine, Mavi, Yadav, and Charavarthy.
KKR IPL odds

Mumbai Indians to Win
When it comes to IPL success, there has been no other team that has been as successful as the Mumbai Indians. They have won the title five times, and we definitely would not make a prediction today IPL greatness is not within their reach once again. In fact, a quick look at the odds that are on offer at the best betting sites comment that even the bookmakers feel that the Mumbai Indians are really the national cricket team with a really good chance of winning.
MI Strengths
They have managed to retain most of their talented batsmen from the last few seasons. India's talented captain, Rohit Sharma will open the batting alongside Ishan Kishan, the most expensive buy at the 2022 IPL auction. The middle order will be made up of the likes of Tim David, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard. In Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills, they have a pace duo who can cause any batsman plenty of issues.
MI Weaknesses
There will be no Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, the Pandya brothers, or Quinton de Kock, and these were all instrumental in helping the Mumbai Indians win the title in 2020. We also feel that they do not have as much depth as the other squads, so if one of the regular playing XI gets injured or is out of form, they will struggle to replace them with similar quality.
MI Probable XI
Sharma, Kishan, Yadav, Varma, Pollard, David, Allen, Unadkat, Markande, Bumrah, and Mills.
MI IPL odds
50.00
Chennai Super Kings to Win
The Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions, and they have four IPL titles to their name. Many thought that their team was too old to win the 2021 edition, but they showed their detractors that age is just a number. But does that mean 100% any today IPL match can be won by them again? They managed to retain eight players that played in the final last year, and this experience of winning the title is something that could help them a lot throughout this year. However, the bookies reckon that they will not be able to retain their trophy this time around as seen by the fact that they are fourth favourites to win today.
CSK Strengths
In competitions where there is a lot of pressure on everyone to perform, it is important that a team has a captain that is a calming presence, and it is safe to say that you will not find many calmer cricketers than MS Dhoni. If you cut him open, we would not be surprised to see ice seep out of the cut instead of blood. They also have a very exciting fast bowling prospect in this shape of Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who recently formed part of the Under-19 India team that won the World Cup. In the form of Maheesh Theeksana, they also have a spinner that could end up being their trump card.
CSK Weaknesses
We are pretty sure that they will miss the experience and skill of Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis, but Devon Conway will be confident that he will be able to fill the void that was left behind by the absence of the latter.
CSK Probable XI
Gaikwad, Conway, Ali, Dube, Rayudu, Jadeja, Dhoni, Chahar, Bravo, Hangargekar, and Milne.

IPL 2022 Auction
The IPL 2022 Auction took place in Bengaluru on the 12th and 13th of February 2022. It was a mega auction since each franchise was only allowed to retain four players from their squad, and there was a salary cap of ₹90 crore for each franchise. As a result, there were around 600 players up for grabs, including some of the best T20 players in the world.
Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player at the 2022 auction - he was bought by the Mumbai Indians for a fee of ₹15.25 crore. This was not enough to make him the most expensive player at an auction since Chris Morris was bought for ₹16.25 crore at the 2021 auction, making him the most expensive player ever bought. Other expensive players at the 2022 auction include Deepak Chahar, who was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for ₹14 crore, Shreyas Iyer who was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹12.25 crore, and Liam Livingstone who was sold to the Punjab Kings for ₹11.50 crore.
Follow the link above, and you will be able to find out more information about the 2022 IPL auction as well as the full squads for each of the franchises.
IPL 2022 Venues
The BBCI decided that it would be best to host the matches in one or two locations in India to decrease the risk of the players picking up Covid-19. The first half of the 2021 edition was played across India, and players contracted the virus flying to other parts of the country. Thus, with this in mind, they decided that Mumbai and Pune would be the best locations to host the matches. Three stadiums in Mumbai and one stadium in Pune were chosen to host the matches.
The DY Patil Stadium and the Wankhede Stadium will host 20 games each, while the Brabourne Stadium will host 15 matches. The MCA International Stadium was the venue chosen in Pune, and this will also host 15 matches. You can read reviews of each in our national stadium guide.
IPL Toss Outcomes
We can see a trend forming in the 2022 IPL. The majority of the matches are starting in the evening, which increases the likelihood of dew settling on the pitch. Dew, for cricket players, is a major threat - or advantage- depending on whether you a batting or bowling. What we have seen so far in the tournament are captains choosing to bat second, to give their squad an advantage in the second innings as this forces their opponents to take the brunt of the dew (if any). If the cricket ball gets wet, it can affect a bowler’s grip and control. In limited overs T20 cricket, this advantage can be enough to tip the win in your favour.
So, how has the toss been affecting the matches of the IPL so far? We are seeing that the amount of dew varies between the four pitches in the 2022 IPL, and of course other factors such as humidity have an impact on how much dew there could be each evening. The majority of the teams that win the toss go on to win the game. We have only seen a handful of teams managing to defend their score, so the captain with enough toss prediction luck to win the toss is surely breathing a small sigh of relief.
The table below outline which team won the toss, whether they chose to bat first or second, and who won the match.

Latest IPL Predictions
IPL Predictions
In September of 2007, the Board of Control for Cricket in India declared that the very first season of the Indian Premier League would launch in April of 2008. In January 2008, the first auction was held to determine the owners of the franchises that would be taking part in the league.
The winners were soon announced to the public alongside the cities that the eight franchises would be from - Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mohali, and Mumbai. At the end of the auction, the eight teams were sold for a total of $723.59 million. The inaugural IPL was won by the Rajasthan Royals, and it has been held every year since and is now the most anticipated T20 domestic competition in the world.
Essential IPL Betting Tips
We are now going to provide you with some top betting tips for the 2022 IPL. You are obviously not obliged to take these IPL betting tips on board, but we are pretty sure that you will be improving your chances of winning if you do. After all, these tips are coming from cricket betting experts with years of experience in the field.
Most Valuable Player Award
Many cricketing legends have won the IPL MVP crown since the tournament started back in 2008. This includes the likes of Chris Gayle, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Andre Russel. This is an award that only the very best can get their hands on.
For the 2021 edition, Harshal Patel was the winner as the paceman from the RCB picked up a staggering 32 wickets, which was eight more than his closest challenger. This year, we are putting our money on Khan to be crowned at the MVP. He left the SRH and joined the Gujarat Lions, and given his sheer quality with both bat and ball, we are sure that he will be one of their standout players worth your bonus.
To Top the Table
The DC finished at the top of the table after the Group Stage in 2021, winning 10 of the 14 matches that they played and having an impressive Net Run Rate of 0.481. However, despite a great Group Stage, there failed to make it to the final.
It is always nice to make bold predictions every now and then and, in our eyes, putting money on DC to finish at the top of the table once more is a bold prediction, but one that we would not be surprised to see happen. They have been really consistent in the last three seasons, finishing 3rd in the table in 2019, second in 2020, and first in 2021. Their squad is full of talent, and if they play at the top of their game, then they will win most the games that they play.
Bottom of the Table
When betting on the IPL, it is always hard to predict the team that will finish at the bottom of the table because every team is made up of a number of top players. However, with that being said, the SRH were clearly the worst team in the 2021 IPL - not only did they pick up just three wins, but they with a 21% win percentage, they finished at the bottom of the table, four points adrift of 7th.
To make matters even worse for the SRH, they have lost many star players and will now be without the likes of Roy, Warner, Khan, Holder, and Kumar. Having lost so many talented players, we think that they will struggle in the 2022 IPL, and the bookmakers also think the same as they have the highest odds to win the competition.
Top Run-Scorer (Orange Cap)
Above we mentioned one of the most consistent IPL teams, and now we are going to look at one of the most consistent IPL batsmen over the last few seasons. KL Rahul has been the standout batsman in the IPL following stints with RCB, SRH, and PBKS. In 2020, the Punjab Kings finished in 5th place, but Rahul still won the Orange Cap thanks to the 670 runs that he scored in the 14 matches that he played - this even included a staggering 132 not out.
In 2021, Rahul smashed 30 sixes in 13 innings, and finished only nine runs behind Ruturaj Gaikwad, who won the 2021 Orange Cap. Rahul has left PBKS, and is now playing for the Lucknow Super Giants alongside the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Quinton de Kock, and Jason Holder. We think Rahul will thrive at LSG, and it definitely worth your time putting some bonus money on him to win the 2022 Orange Cap.
Top Wicket-Taker (Purple Cap)
Despite being a top-quality bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has never won the Purple Cap that is awarded to the bowler who gets the most wickets in the competition. He joined the Mumbai Indians back in 2013, and in the seasons since he has gone on to pick up 130 wickets from 105 Premier League matches.
In 2018, he picked up 17 wickets, in 2019 he picked up 19 wickets, and in 2020 he claimed 27 scalps but finished in second place because Kagiso Rabada picked up three more. In 2021, he picked up over 20 wickets once again, and everyone has a sense that he is close to claiming his first Purple Cap. We expect big things from Bumrah in 2022, and think that he has every chance of landing the Purple Cap.
Winner of the 2022 IPL
IPL predictions would not be complete without a prediction for the outright winner. We are all aware that the Mumbai Indians have a below-par season in 2022 - they finished level on points with KKR, but they missed out on a spot in the Play-Offs because of an inferior NRR. They entered the 2021 as back-to-back champions, but things did not end up going to plan.
However, we are sure that they will bounce back in 2022 and will have a really good chance to win today their sixth IPL title. They can call on the services of extremely talented players such as Sharma, Pollard, Yadav, and Bumrah, so it would be surprising if they fail to make it to the play-offs.

Indian Premier League Prediction tip: Indian Premier League Format and Player Acquisition
Due to the additional two teams that are participating in this year's tournament, the format of the competition has changed. It had to be changed because if it was not, then there would have been 94 matches, and there is no way that the BCCI and the players could fit these matches in around their busy schedule.
In the previous editions, the format used was double round-robin, but this time the ten franchises have been split into two groups of five. During the group stage, each franchise will play 14 matches - they will face the other four sides in their group twice (once at home and once away), four team from the other group once, and one team from the other group twice. The top two teams will then advance to the Qualifier 1, while the teams that finish in 3rd and 4th will advance to the Eliminator.
The two groups are as follows:
Group A:
- Chennai Super Kings
- Kolkata Knight Riders
- Punjab Kings
- Royal Challengers Bangalore
- Lucknow Super Giants
Group B:
- Mumbai Indians
- Delhi Capitals
- Rajasthan Royals
- Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Gujurat Titans
"The two teams will then play in the final for the chance to be crowned IPL champions."
Player Acquisition
In practice, franchises can get new players in three ways:
- Annual Auction: Players register for an auction and declare what price they want to be sold at. The owners of each franchise then start bidding for the players they want, with the highest bid being the winner
- Transfer window: There is a transfer window where a player can be traded with another club, with his new team paying the difference of the contract. The trading window in the 2022 IPL will open once all 10 franchises have played nine matches each
- Signing unsold players: Those players that remain unsold at the auction can be bought as replacement players
Composition Rules
The main composition rules are as follows:
- Each squad must have 18-25 players in their squad
- The salary of the team cannot go beyond 90 crores
- Only five overseas players can play in the starting XI
- Players younger than 19 cannot be chosen unless they play first-class cricket
IPL Prize Money
For the 2021 IPL, the CSK were rewarded with ₹20 crores for winning the title, while the KKR received ₹12.5 Crores as the for coming in second. The DC and RCB came in third and fourth and were awarded ₹8.75 Crores apiece.
For this year, the team that will win the IPL today will win ₹20 crore and the runner-up will get ₹13 crore.
Past IPL Winners
Which Teams Have Won The IPL tournament in the past?
Year | Winner | Winning Margin | Runner-Up |

2008 | Rajasthan Royals | 3 wickets | Chennai Super Kings |
2009 | Deccan Chargers | 6 runs | Royal Challengers Bangalore |
2010 | Chennai Super Kings | 22 runs | Mumbai Indians |
2011 | Chennai Super Kings | 58 runs | Royal Challengers Bangalore |
2012 | Kolkata Knight Riders | 5 wickets | Chennai Super Kings |
2013 | Mumbai Indians | 23 runs | Chennai Super Kings |
2014 | Kolkata Knight Riders | 3 wickets | Punjab Kings XI |
2015 | Mumbai Indians | 41 runs | Chennai Super Kings |
2016 | Sunrisers Hyderabad | 8 runs | Royal Challengers Bangalore |
2017 | Mumbai Indians | 1 run | Rising Pune Supergiant |
2018 | Chennai Super Kings | 8 wickets | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
2019 | Mumbai Indians | 1 run | Chennai Super Kings |
2020 | Mumbai Indians | 5 wickets | Delhi Capitals |
2021 | Chennai Super Kings | 27 runs | Kolkata Knight Riders |
The Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in IPL history. They have won the competition five times! The Chennai Super Kings have won it three times, but they have lost the final four times. Which means when it comes to making Indian Premier predictions, the these two teams are always safer bets.
