IPL 2022 Prediction - Match 02: Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians. Who Will Win?

The 2022 Indian Premier League is right around the corner with the VIVO IPL-15 edition starting this weekend. The second match of the IPL kicks off between the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians at Brabourne Stadium. While both teams are tipped as favourites to win the the tournament, which team will come out on top? Delhi Capitals Team Preview

Going into the 2022 edition, the Capitals retained Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and Anrich Nortje and further strengthened their squad with some prominent names such as David Warner (Rs 6.25 crore), Khaleel Ahmed (Rs 5.25 crore), and Mitchell Marsh (Rs 6.50 crore) at the 2022 Mega Auction. Coming from the Chennai Super Kings, Shardul Thakur was bought for Rs 10.75 crore. The medium-fast bowler will surely bring some quality to the team but could also be an advantage to the batting department as a tailender batsman.

Skipper Pant will continue to lead the team after his success during the tournament last year before it was suspended, in which Pant led the Capitals to six wins in eight matches. Marsh and Mandeep Singh are likely to join him in the middle order.

Mumbai Indians Team Preview

Skipper Rohit Sharma will be hoping to lead his team to victory after a somewhat underwhelming campaign in 2021. The Mumbai Indians edged closer and closer to victory, however, ultimately knocked out of the tournament in the playoffs. Backed with a strong team with the likes of Keiron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah - who were also the only four players who were retained from the 2021 squad - it comes as no surprise they are tipped as one of the favourites to win another IPL title. However, it looks like the team will have to suffer an early blow in the tournament as their opener Yadav has suffered a thumb injury. With a five day break until their next match, it is expected that Yadav will rejoin the team then.

Right-arm Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is the Mumbai Indian’s most prolific bowlers for the team. Bumrah took the third spot for most wickets taken in the 2021 edition having picked up 21 wickets in just 14 matches. Despite being one of the top IPL bowlers in the IPL, Bumrah has not been able to take the Purple Cap. However, since 2018, he has been climbing the table for most wickets and for this reason, Bumrah could be a great contender for the Purple Cap for the 2022 edition and we predict will win this award. The Brabourne Stadium pitch is considered good for batting and has a reputation of being a hard and flat pitch. For previous matches however, there have been reports that the pitch is slow which can definitely make the captains worry.
