When Did the First Mzani Super League Happen?
Cricket South Africa announced in 2018 that a new T20 tournament was going to take place from the 16th November to the 16th December. They had seen the success that other T20 leagues were having around the world and, understandably so, wanted in on the action. However, it took the CSA 18 months to finalize the competition and thrash out deals with international and domestic broadcasters.
"Mzansi" is an isiXhosa word that means "south", but it is also a colloquial slang word that is used to refer to South Africa. However, many international cricket betting sites keep track of this contest as South African cricket is some of the best in the world. Rassie van der Dussen was the top scorer in the first edition, scoring 469 runs in 11 matches. He scored 4 half-centuries, had a top score of 96* and averaged 58.62 with the bat. Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock both scored 108 runs, which was the highest score in the tournament. Hendricks also took the most catches in the tournament (10). Duanne Oliver took 20 wickets in 9 matches, which was the most by any bowler. He conceded 264 runs from 33.3 overs with an average of 13.20. Zanzima Pongolo took 6 wickets for 20 runs, which were the best figures in a match by any bowler. Tladi Bokako, in a match on the 30th November, 2018, conceded 63 runs from his 4 overs. These were the most expensive figures.

How Do MSL Teams Acquire Players?
T20 leagues usually make use of an auction or a draft system to enable teams to complete their squads. The MSL makes use of the latter. Players who are interested in playing in this competition simply register on the CSA website and if they are eligible to play, they will then be added to the draft. Each team will then take it in turns to purchase the players that they believe will strengthen them. Each team can only have a maximum of sixteen players. At least three of these players have to be an overseas player, but a team cannot have more than four overseas players.
Mzansi Super League Format
The six teams are placed into one group and each team plays all the other teams twice, once at home and once away. When all the group stage games have been completed, the team that sits at the top of the table goes straight through to the final as hosts. The two teams that come second and third play each other, with the winner also going through the final. The winner of that match is then crowned the champions.
"If the winning team has a run rate that is 1.25 times better than their opponents, they are rewarded an extra point."
Which MSL Team Has Won the Cup?
There has been two editions of this tournament so far, and there has been two different winners. The table below reveals who that was and who they beat. As more editions of this tournament are held, the table will be updated accordingly.
