We are back again for our Indian Premier League IPL prediction for Match 22 taking place at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy. In this game the Chennai Super Kings are facing the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Super Kings will be feeling despondent as they are yet to win a match. The Challengers, on the other hand, are going from strength to strength and they are currently in fourth place on the leaderboard with 6 points. Will they hand the Super Kings their fifth defeat in a row, or will the Super Kings finally turn their luck around? Keep reading to find out who we predict will win the match today.

Chennai Super Kings Team Preview

The Chennai Super Kings are off to an abysmal start to the IPL 2022 and are currently propping up the league table. The Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered the latest loss to the Super King by 8 wickets with 14 balls left. After four disappointing defeats, the defending champions must be reeling at how different this season is compared to the last. This is the second time in their history to have lost this many matches in a row and this match threatens to make a new record for them. With a Net Run Rate of -1.211 and 0 points to their name, fans will be wondering when the Super Kings will finally win their first match and attempt to turn their luck around.

We turn to the batting side first and it’s fair to say the Super Kings reached a decent batting total. The opening partnership between Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad, while not spectacular, got the squad off to a good start. Moeen Ali added the bulk of the runs to the Super Kings’ score with 48 runs from 35 balls. However the bowling attack from the Sunrisers was incredibly strong and caused a few casualties. Shivan Dube and MS Dhoni were both caught out after scoring just three runs each from five and six balls respectively.

The bowlers lacked depth and only managed to take their first wicket late in the game in the 13th over. Mukesh Choudhary and Maheesh Theekshana were the only two players to bowl the maximum amount of overs where they conceded 30 and 31 runs respectively. Chris Jordan and Dwayne Bravo were the two most expensive players with a bowling economy hovering around the 11.00 mark.

If you are interested in placing a match prediction today at one of the leading IPL betting sites, the most popular markets are top batsman and top bowler. While we haven’t seen many standout players from this team from the last match, Ali could be a reasonable choice as he seems to be finding his rhythm as the tournament progresses. For the batsmen, perhaps Choudhary is an interesting choice. It's true that the momentum of gaining early wins in the tournament is crucial for raising the spirits of the squad. All the Super Kings can do is try to shake off their despondency and go into this match as fresh as possible. However, it’s fair to say their campaign is looking a little bleak.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Team Preview

The Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Mumbai Indians in Match 18 which has taken them to three wins in a row. They delivered another crushing defeat for the Indians by 7 wickets and 9 balls remaining. We saw some superb playing from the Challengers and after a steady Powerplay, they continued to deliver the damage that the Indians weren’t able to recover from.

The Challengers started off on a strong foot with a partnership reaching half a century. Despite a somewhat early dismissal of skipper Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat continued with the stellar work and contributed to an 80 run partnership with Virat Kohli. Rawat scored 66 runs from 47 balls, and it was this cracking performance from the 22 year old that won him the Player of the Match award. Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell took the squad over the victory line in superb style. Both were delivered two balls to which Karthik scored 7 runs and Maxwell 8. Maxwell is our choice for top batsmen for online cricket betting. Turning our attention to the bowlers, Akash Deep was the most economical bowler for delivering four overs. He conceded 20 runs, took a wicket, and also bowled a maiden. Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets in his four overs and conceded 28 runs. He has the best bowling figures (4/20) in the tournament to date, and is now in joint fourth place with Avesh Khan for most wickets taken (8).

Toss Prediction

As we continue to follow the trend of the IPL 2022, we are quite confident with our toss prediction. A team is yet to decide to bat first, as the chasing team undoubtedly has an advantage over the defending team. Dew continues to play a role in the tournament and varies in intensity from pitch to pitch. The team fielding second will take the brunt of the dewy conditions which can impact the bowlers’ grip, so, we will be very surprised if the captain to win the toss decides to bat first.

Pitch Conditions

The Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai is said to be a balanced track. It offers bounce for the pacers and grip for the spinners. The average bowling economy for the pacers this season is 7.1 while for the spinners it’s 8.5. Match 15 was the last match to take place at this stadium and in the ending interviews, Quinton de Kock reported that the wicket was slow, tricky, and the found that the slower balls were gripping. While we have seen some high scores around the 200 mark in Match 3 and 9, the lowest score in Match 6 of 132/7 shows how much the scores can fluctuate on this pitch. A defending score of around 180 would put the team into a strong position and give the best chances for success. Anything around 150-160 would be too easy to chase down.

Our Match Prediction

Do we agree with the leading IPL betting sites regarding our match prediction? The answer to this is a resounding yes. Our IPL prediction of who will win this match is the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Chennai Super Kings are yet to win a match this season, just like the Mumbai Indians. The Super Kings need all the help they can get, and even if they manage to win the toss, we think it would be very hard for them to clinch the win.
