IPL Team Preview: Punjab Kings

Punjab's whole team is geared towards getting a big score and hitting powerful shots, which is why we feel that they will be very disappointed to be leaving Mumbai with just the solitary win under their belt. The conditions in Mumbai should have suited them more than those in Chennai. KL Rahul has received a bit of criticism lately because of his strike rate, but a measured approach is something that could be required when playing in Chennai. With the likes of Chris Gayle, Deepak Hooda, Mayank Aggarwal, Nicholas Pooran, and Shahrukh Khan, the PK have a strong top six, but not a lot to follow. Getting the huge shots away is not going to be easy in Chennai, and we feel that this batting lineup might struggle. It will be very interesting to see if they stick with Rilee Meredith and Jhye Richardson in this game or replace one of them with a player like Fabian Allen. Since the conditions will more than likely favour the spinners, he will give them another option and is handy with the bat too.

David Warner will have been left very frustrated as his team threw away the chance to win their last to games. Warner alongside Jonny Bairstow gave the SRH a great start against Mumbai, but everyone around them folded meekly. They made four changes to their XI in the last match, and we would not be too surprised if we saw even more changes this time around. They really need to find a space for Kane Williamson in their team, and we feel that Mujeeb ur Rahman might make way. They really have to fit in Williamson as Manish Pandey has been underperforming at 3 and Williamson is one of the best batsmen in the world. He might not be a big hitter of the ball, but he has the talent to find the gaps in the field and score boundaries. If he does come into play, the SRH will be hoping he is not too rusty. Also, Shahbaz Nadeem should replace Abhishek Sharma, and this would make the balance of the team that much better. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan will lead their bowling attack once again, while Vijay Shankar should keep his place as he bowled well in the last match. We feel that the SRH has a big advantage in this game because the batsmen are more familiar with the conditions in Chennai. Also, the form of their two openers, Warner and Bairstow, has been very good and could help them build a total that will see them pick up a win.

Toss Prediction

Winning the toss and opting to bat first is seen as the way to go. Teams will be aiming to score a total somewhere in the region of 160, as this is a tricky score to chase down in Chennai. In the last 5 games in Chennai, the winning team was the one that batted first, so you should take this into consideration when you are betting.

Pitch and Conditions

Chennai has been a bowler-friendly pitch, and we do not think that some big hitting lately by Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers should trick us into believing that is has become a good wicket to bat on. On their day, these two players can be absolute freaks of nature. A score of 160 is par, while anything above 170 will be really hard for the chasing team to get. The pitch just seems to slow down a lot in the second innings, and there has been little dew to worry about.
