2022 IPL Auction: Who Will Be Playing for Which Team?
The 2022 IPL auction took place on the 12th and 13th of February in Bengaluru and there was a total of 600 players up for grabs. Out of these 600 players, 204 players were sold for ₹551.70 crore, and we now know the strength of all of the ten teams that will be betting on in the 2022 IPL. This article tells you everything that you need to know for your IPL betting.
The Most Expensive players at the 2022 IPL Auction
The auction for the Indian Premier League takes place before each tournament every year. Some of the players that are up for grabs are sought after a lot more than their fellow players, which can be seen in the price that the franchises are happy to pay for their talents. The resulting squads heavily effect our IPL predictions.
Below we are going to have a look at some of the most expensive players that were sold at the 2022 IPL auction. IPL betting sites are always keeping an eye on these players as they are obviously expected to do big things. We should add that this was a mega auction, meaning that all of the franchises were only allowed to keep four of their players, and the rest had to go into the auction pot. This meant that there was plenty of talent up for grabs this time around.
Ishan Kishan - Indian Wicket-Keeper/Batsman
The 23-year-old was let go by the Mumbai Indians and, according to many reports, he refused to accept any of the offers that were made for him by Lucknow Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans. Instead, he opted to go back into the auction pool, knowing that there was little chance that he would be left unsold.
This was a decision that paid off as the Mumbai Indians managed to buy him back for ₹15.25 crore, which now makes him the most costly player of the 2022 auction. However, this price tag only puts him at second place for the most expensive Indian ever bought at an IPL auction, after Yuvraj Singh who was sold for ₹16 crore back in 2015. Chris Morris, who sold for ₹16.25 crore in 2021 remains the most expensive playing in IPL history.
Such was the intent from the Mumbai Indians to buy Ishan back that they did not try to buy one player from the first 40 that were auctioned. This list of players included some of the best players in the world. There will be plenty of pressure on the youngster to perform now, and the Mumbai Indians will be hoping that it turns out to be money well spent. They already know just how good he is as he has played 45 IPL matches for them and scored 1133 runs.
Deepak Chahar - Indian Fast-Medium Bowler
The Chennai Super Kings opted to release Deepak Chahar for the auction and, just like the Mumbai Indians did with Ishan, they snapped him right back up again. There was a bidding war for his services between the Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Rajasthan Royals, and the Chennai Super Kings, but it was the latter who snapped him up with a bid of ₹14 crore, making him the second most expensive buy at the 2022 IPL auction.
Chahar has played for the Chennai Super Kings since 2018, and has played 58 matches for the side that is led by the legendary Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni. In that time, he has picked up 58 wickets with an economy rate of 7.70. He has become a very sought-after bowler in the IPL thanks to his bowling ability in the PowerPlay overs. He has the ability to swing the new ball, so he often helps his team get off to a great start.
Shreyas Iyer - Indian Batsman
Shreyas Iyer was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders for a total amount of ₹12.25 crore, after they outbid the Gujarat Titans and the Delhi Capitals for his services. He was well sought-after because he was one of the main reasons why the Delhi Capitals have been performing so well over the last few seasons. In 2019, under the captaincy of Iyer, they made it to the Play-Offs for the first time in seven years, and then in 2020 they made their first appearance in the final, where they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians.
He played for the Delhi Capitals for 7 seasons and scored 2375 runs from the 87 matches that he played, which happens to make him the third highest run-scorer for the franchise after Virender Sehwag who scored 2382 runs and Rishab Pant who scored 2498 runs.
Liam Livingstone - England All-Rounder
Liam Livingstone was bought by the Punjab Kings for ₹11.50 crore, making him the most expensive foreign player at the 2022 IPL auction. The England all-rounder played in nine matches for the Rajasthan Royals between 2019 and 2021, but he will be the first to admit that he did not make the most of the opportunities that were given to him.
However, he showed the cricketing world what he is capable of in the shorter format of the game at the Men's Hundred in 2021, smashing 348 runs with a strike rate of 178.46 for the franchise Birmingham Phoenix. When he is in the zone, he can be absolutely devastating, as Pakistan found out in July last year when he smashed 103, becoming just the third Englishman to hit a T20I hundred. He also once hit a six that was 122 metres long, which is one of the biggest sixes ever hit in T20 cricket. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders were interested in buying him.
Shardul Thakur - Indian Medium-Fast Bowler
Shardul Thakar is the type of cricketer that brings a lot of quality to whatever team he is playing for. Not only can he bowl well in the middle overs of an innings, but he can also score some handy runs further down the order. He is often the one that gets the much-needed breakthrough for his team.
During his IPL time, he has played for the Kings XI Punjab, who are now called the Punjab Kings, the Rising Pune Super Giant, and he spent the last four seasons with the Chennai Super Kings, where he helped them to win two titles. The Delhi Capitals bought Thakur for ₹10.75 crores at the 2022 IPL auction, and they will be hoping that he plays a big role in helping them carry on with their resurgence that they saw under the captaincy of Iyer.
The Squad for Each IPL Team
When it comes to IPL betting, it is always a good idea to know as much information as possible about the different squads. Obviously, the better the squad is, the more chance that franchise has of doing well in the competition. Therefore, with this in mind, we are going to now give you the full squads of the ten different franchises.

Which Players Will Earn the Most at the 2022 IPL?
Not only are the very best players bought for a huge amount of money at the IPL auctions each year, but many get huge salaries to play in the tournament. Obviously, like with every other sport out there, some players will earn much more money that their fellow players. Below we are going to take a look at some of the players that are going to be earning the most from the 2022 IPL.
Now, when it comes to cricket betting, this information is not really that helpful since the wages that a player is getting is not going to have much of an impact on how he performs. However, it is still nice to know this type of data because you can keep it in the back of your mind and then see if the players are living up to their high wages. So, let's crack on, shall we?
- KL Rahul will be paid 170 million rupees ($2.26 million) for playing for the Lucknow Super Giants
- Ravi Jadeja will receive 160 million rupees ($2.13 million) from the Chennai Super Kings
- Rishabh Pant will be getting 160 million rupees ($2.13 million) for playing with the Delhi Capitals
- Rohit Sharma will also receive 160 million rupees ($2.13 million) for spending the season at the Mumbai Indians
- Ishan Kishan will earn himself 152.5 million rupees ($2.03 million) at the Mumbai Indians
- Virat Kohli will earn 150 million rupees ($2 million) for trying to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore earn their first IPL trophy
- Hardik Pandya will receive 150 million rupees ($2 million) for playing with the new boys, Gujarat Titans
- Rashid Khan will get himself a crisp 150 million rupees ($2 million) for trying to spin the Gujarat Titans to success in their very first IPL
- Deepal Chahar will be given 140 million rupees ($1.86 million) to see if he can help the Chennai Super Kings achieve a sixth title
- Kane Williamson will get 140 million rupees ($.186 million) to try and lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad to a successful 2022 IPL
Unsold Players at the 2022 IPL Auction
While those that we listed above will be getting huge cash amounts added to their accounts, there were a number of players that were not picked for any team. Below we are going to take a look at the best XI that were left on the scrap heap after the 2022 mega auction.
Aaron Finch: The Australian T20I and ODI captain has gone unsold for the second season in a row. He last played for the RCB in the 2020 ILP, where he hit 268 runs from the 12 matches that he played in. His best season in the IPL came for the SRH back in 2013, where he scored 456 runs from the 14 games that he played, with a strike rate of 111.20.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz: This wicket-keeper from Afghanistan has 531 runs from 18 matches with a strike rate of 139.37, but he still did not manage to find a team at the 2022 IPL auction. Last year, he played for the Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League and scored 207 runs in eight matches.
Suresh Raina: He is the highest runscorer in the IPL for the CSK, with 4687 runs from the 171 innings that he has played. Throughout his long IPL career, he has scored one century and 39 fifties and only missed the 2020 season due to some personal reasons. However, his poor form last year, which saw him score just 160 runs at an average of 17.77 has seen him miss out this time around.
Steven Smith: The Australian was released by the RR ahead of the 2021 auction and was bought by the DC. However, he only played in eight of the 16 games, and scored just 152 runs with an average of 25.33. Overall, he has played in 103 IPL games and has amassed 2485 runs, but this experience did not see him land a team this time around.
Saurabh Tiwary: He has scored 1494 runs in 74 IPL innings with an average of 28.73. He used to be part of the MI's
core when Sachin Tendulkar was playing, and he created a pretty decent partnership with Ambati Rayudu. He played for MI in the 2020 edition of the tournament, amassing 115 runs in five games. However, this time nobody wanted his services, so this might be the end of his IPL career.
Eoin Morgan: The England captain showed great leadership skills in the 2021 edition, but his batting was under par to say the least. In the 17 matches that he took part in, he scored just 133 runs with an average of 11.08. With figures such as this, it is safe to say that he probably was not too surprised to see nobody put in a bid for him.
Shakib Al Hasan: The legendary Bangladesh bowler was part of the KKR team that were beaten by the CSK in the 2021 final. However, it is safe to say that he was not as influential as he used to be - he scored 47 runs and picked up four wickets in the eight games that he played.
Piyush Chawla: He is the IPL's fourth-highest wicket taker, having picked up 157 wickets in the 165 games that he has played in. He has not played with the PBKS for eight years, but he still happens to be their leading wicket-taker. Despite the fact that he clearly knows how to collect wickets in the IPL, he still did not manager to get bought by a team.
Amit Mishra: He is the only player in IPL history who has claimed a hat-trick on three occasions. The first one was for the DC, his second was with PBKS, and his third was with the SRH. The leg-spinner is just five wickets shy of passing Lasith Malinga as the competition's top wicket-taker, but he will not get the chance this time around as he was not bought by a team.
Ishant Sharma: He has collected 72 wickets from the 93 IPL games that he has played, and has an average of 37.51. He played for the DC last year and only played three matches, picking up the one wicket. It is not that surprising that he went unsold this year.
Dhawal Kularni: He has been a bit of an unsung hero for how much effort he has put in during his long IPL career, being a great asset with the new ball. He was with the MI for the 2021 edition of the competition, but he only played two matches and was released by them for the 2022 auction.
