Saturday is set for another bumper day of cricket for the Indian Premier League, with back to back games at both 13:30 and 19:30 IST. For our match prediction today, we are taking a look at game number 26 between one of the new franchises to join the tournament, the Lucknow Super Giants, and the team that was previously tipped as the favourites, the Mumbai Indians. The match will be held at Brabourne Stadium at 13:30 IST, which was also the location for Match 25. Has the wind been well and truly knocked out of the beleaguered Men in Blue’s sails? Will the Lucknow Super Giants be able to clinch another two crucial points? Take a look at our IPL prediction of who will win this match and our top choices if you are IPL betting this weekend.

Mumbai Indians Team Preview

With now five losses on the trot, fans for the once favourites Mumbai Indians must be feeling despondent after the Men in Blue’s terrible start to the IPL 2022. With the chances of the Indians reaching the playoffs diminishing, the team is running out of time to get their act together. On the bright side, the Indians still have a few more loses to go to get a record. Back in the 2012/13 season the Delhi Daredevils (now known as the Delhi Capitals after their name chance in 2019), lost eight matches in a row putting them in fifth place for the longest losing streak. Let’s hope that the five-time champions can turn their luck around soon to improve on their negative run rate of -1.072.

Rohit Sharma despite a decent score of 41 runs in the first match, he has been somewhat of a flop in the subsequent three. In total, the skipper has only scored 90 runs, and provided a half-hearted springboard into the matches for his squad. Conversely, his opening partner, Ishan Kishan, has shown a consistently good performance. In their most recent match against the Punjab Kings, Sharma showed a fairly decent performance scoring 28 runs from 17 balls. It was Kishan’s turn for the disappointing show (3 runs off 6 balls).

The Indians are having some trouble with their inexperienced middle order, and we have seen some changes to the playing XI because of this. Suryakumar Yadav and Dewald Brevis took the place of Anmolpreet Singh and Tim David. Despite performing slightly better, these substitutions haven’t brought around the huge change the Indians were hoping for. Yadav, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore added the bulk of their runs at 68 from 37 balls, with a whopping six 6’s and five 4’s. Against the Kings, he scored 43 runs from 30 balls.

How did Tilak Verma and Keiron Pollard do after they were both dismissed for a duck in Match 18? Well, Verma bounced back with 36 runs from 20 balls and managed to stitch together 84 runs with Dewald Brevis. Pollard, however, was run out by Odean Smith after only scoring 10 runs from 11 balls.

It’s fair to say that the Indians are lacking in the bowling department. Their lackluster performances so far are now highlighting the need for a quality bowler to support Jasprit Bumrah.

Lucknow Super Giants Team Preview

The Lucknow Super Giants are sitting comfortably at the top half of the table with six points and a Net Run Rate of +0.174. The Rajasthan Royals delivered their first loss to the Super Giants after a small stretch of wins, one that will be even more bitter as it was by just three runs. This thriller of a game ramped up by the end and provided an excellent, if not a nail biting, finished that perfectly encapsulates the excitement that the short T20 form can bring.

The Rajasthan Royals posted a below-par score for the Super Giants to chase, however their top order was absolutely abysmal as KL Rahul and Krishnappa Gowtham both were out for a duck. This will particularly sting for Rahul as this is his second time being out for a golden duck this 2021 season.

As the Super Giants went into the middle order with just shy of a half century, the Rajasthan bowlers maintained the pressure and never allowed Lucknow to get ahead until the death overs. Marcus Stoinis performed beautifully and scored 38 runs from 17 balls (not out), for a strike rate of 223.53. If you are considering online cricket betting, Stoinis could be a good choice for top batsman. Some IPL betting sites are also backing Quinton de Kock and after his quick dismissal against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he is certainly a key player for the Super Giants. Avesh Khan really ramped up the tension after getting 7 runs from 2 balls, and very nearly taking the squad over the victory line.

Jason Holder and Krishnappa Gowtham both managed to take two wickets while Avesh Khan took one. However, it was right-arm fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera that was the most economical of the squad after conceding 22 runs for an economy of 5.50.

Toss Prediction

The Lucknow Super Giants join the handful of teams to have the experience of successfully defending their score. The same couldn’t be said for the Mumbai Indians who have experienced three losses from the three coin tosses they have lost. There is a slight advantage to the team chasing at Brabourne Stadium, winning 60% of the time. Therefore, our toss prediction is that the winning team, without question, will elect to field first.

Pitch Conditions

This is the second match in two days to be played at Brabourne Stadium, following the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders. The pitch should be decent and conducive for a high-scoring match. The average first innings score for the 2022 season is 194.2. In Match 19, the Delhi Capitals scored 215 which is the record for this pitch in the tournament to date, with the Lucknow Super Giants taking the second spot with 211 in Match 7. A score of 190-200 could still make it a close call, however the Indians have yet to break the 190 mark.

Our Match Prediction

So, who do we predict will win the match today? In their last match, the Indians scored 186 which is their current record for the season and certainly showed an improvement from their previous performances. The ending could have been very different for the Indians had it not been for some arial shots that dismissed both Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills in the last over. If they get their act together, we could be in for a very interesting game. However, our IPL prediction will stand behind the Lucknow Super Giants taking the win. They were within a hair’s width of winning their last match, so perhaps this will put some fire in their belly to get back onto the winning track.
