The Rajasthan Royals have only one title to their name from the twelve seasons they have played. With the victory in 2008, it’s now more than 10 years since they have had a taste of success. Perhaps they can invoke the success of the past, as it was at the DY Patil Stadium where they sealed their win. Since 2009, the most successful they have placed was third in 2013, so, they are long overdue some success, and frankly, they are in a good position to reach the Play-Offs. They currently have 14 points from their seven wins, and a positive Net Run Rate of +0.326, which is the second highest currently. The run rate will be of utmost importance as the Play-Offs grow closer. The top of the table is currently very congested and only two points separate the top four teams. This means the run rate will be used as the determining factor for which team grabs a spot, so playing well and finishing with the largest margin as possible is key.

The Royals were successful in their last match, securing a win over the Punjab Kings by 6 wickets and 2 balls left. They managed to chase down the Kings’ total of 189 effectively in 19.4 overs, despite a strong attack from the Kings.

The squad got off to a fantastic flying opening, however the fall of Jos Buttler would have certainly given some confidence to the Kings. In true Buttler fashion, he was gearing up for another great run, however ended with 30 runs off 16 balls. Sanju Samson, the skipper of the Royals, was the next player to be dismissed, and finished with 23 runs off 12 balls. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal kept the momentum up and soared to a half-century with some ease. Jaiswal and Devdutt Paddikal continued with a good stand, before the 20 year old’s dismissal. Jaiswal should be pleased with his effort, in which he was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant 68 off 41. Shimron Hetmyer also had a good stand with Paddikal after the dismissal of Jaiswal, and the pair took the Royals over the winning finishing line. Hetmyer finished with 31 off 16 -and also had the best strike rate of the squad at 193.75- while Paddikal finished 31 off 32.

On the bowling side, Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed three wickets while conceding 28 runs in his spell, while Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed one while conceding 32 runs. Prasidh Krishna leaked 48 runs but managed to at least take a wicket. Trent Boult got a maiden while conceding 36 runs. Overall, Boult was the most economical bowler at 9.0, while Krishna was the most expensive at 12.0.

Last match in the tournament against the Delhi Capitals secured them win margin by 15 runs with the target of 223. This is their fourth best run margin win, with the number one spot taken by their 61 run margin win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad with the target of 211.

The Capitals were generally below par as a unit, and David Warner (19 off 12) was dismissed early on in the fourth over at 36/2. Mitchell Marsh finished 25 off 20 in the seventh over and skipper Rishabh Pant finished 21 off 11 in the ninth over, and the Capitals side really began to crumble. Apart from Shardul Thakur (24 off 19), the batters dropped like flies. Between Rovman Powell, Ripal Patel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anriche Nortje, and Khaleel Ahmed, they only managed to score 16 runs off 28 balls.
