England's tour of the West Indies has not gone to plan as they currently trail 2-1 in the five-match series going into Saturday's fourth match.
The West Indies have played really well to be fair to them, although it must be stressed that this is an England team that is devoid of many of their best T20 players as they have been given a rest. Many are probably questioning what the point is of sending a second-string squad to the Caribbean, but at least it gives fringe players a chance to show their worth.
Will West Indies seal the series on Saturday, or will England take it to a decider? Keep reading to find out our match prediction.
West Indies Team Preview
If you tuned into the third of the five T20 Internationals on Wednesday evening, then boy were you treated to some six hitting of the highest quality. This was definitely not a night to be a bowler, that is for sure.
The West Indies team smashed 16 sixes in all, and ten of these came off the bat of Rovman Powell, who smashed 107 from 53balls to claim his maiden T20 ton. The inexperienced English bowlers just did not know where to bowl to him and if they got their delivery just slightly wrong, they were dispatched to the boundary or out of the park. His knock is even more impressive due to the fact that he took about ten balls to get going. He has been in and out of the team since 2017, but will hope this is the start of a long stint in the side.
Powell was assisted by Nicholas Pooran, who scored 70 off 43 balls, which included five sixes of his own. They put on a partnership of 122 to propel their team to a massive 224/5 from their 20 overs. This was always going to be a really hard score for their opponents to chase down, and they finished 20 runs short of their target.
If you like doing some online cricket betting and want to put money on the Top Batsman for the West Indies in the 4th match, we recommend that you put your money on Pooran. Yes, Powell was the one who smashed a century, but it is highly likely that he will bat that well in the next match.
When it comes to their bowling attack, we feel that a special mention must be given to Sheldon Cottrell and Kieron Pollard. While most other bowlers in this match were being dispatched, Cottrell only conceded 28 runs from four overs and picked up a wicket. Pollard went for just 31 runs from the four overs that he bowled and picked up the vital wickets of Tom Banton and Moeen Ali.
If you are thinking about putting money on the Top Bowler for the West Indies at your favourite cricket betting sites, then we suggest that you consider betting on Cottrell as he has bowled really well in the first three T20 matches of this series.
Do we think that they will make any changes for this 4th match? No, is the simple answer because who are they going to realistically drop after such a win? We expect to see the same 11 on Saturday.
England Team Preview
England made five selection changes from the team that won the second T20 match by a run, with the likes of Harry Brook and George Garton making their international debuts for the Three Lions. We, personally, would not have made as many changes as they did as that is always going to disrupt the rhythm of the side, but we guess they are looking at this series as some type of warm-up series for the T20 World Cup later this year.
Garton started well and picked up the wicket of Brandon King, but then his radar disappeared and his was annihilated by Powell and Pooran. By the time he had bowled his four overs, he had conceded 57 runs. Brook also had a debut that he will want to forget as he could only manage 10 runs from 13 balls on a wicket where others were smashing it all over the shop.
Phil Salt also made his T20 debut and it is safe to say that he had a much more successful day. He came in and smashed 57 off 24 balls to give England a glimmer of hope in the final over of the innings. Banton also had a good match as he reached his highest T20 score by making 73 off 39 balls. At one stage it looked like he was set for a century, but he holed out to Jason Holder in the deep. While the West Indies side smashed 16 sixes, England hit 15 of their own, so the crowd were treated to a six fest.
If you want to make a cricket match prediction for England's innings in the 4th match, you should think about putting your money on Banton to top score for his side once again.
What about the bowling attack? Well, there are only two bowlers that come out of yesterday's match with any dignity left and those two are Reece Topley and Adil Rashid. Topley picked up 30/1 from the four overs he bowled, while Rashid collected 25/1 from the four overs that he bowled. Tymal Mills, Liam Livingstone, and Garton bowled 11 overs between them and went for 151 runs.
If you want to bet on the Top Bowler market for England in the 4th match, we really do recommend that you opt for Rashid. He has been England's standout bowler this tour and it seems that they West Indies bowlers are struggling to read him.
What changes do we see happening for the 4th match? Well, this is not something that is easy to predict since we did not expect five changes for the third match, but we are sure that Eoin Morgan will come back into the team, which will probably see Brook drop back to the bench. We think Salt deserves another match, while Mills will probably drop out for Chris Jordan or Saqib Mahmood.
Toss Prediction
Ali, who was the stand-in England captain in the third match, won the toss and opted to field first. They probably decided on this because the ball comes onto the bat a bit better in the second innings and they feel more comfortable when they are chasing a target. We think that the captain that wins the toss in the 4th match will ask their opponents to bat first since both sides are chasing sides.
Pitch and Conditions
Once again, the forecast is set fair, so there should be few to no delays on Saturday evening. The wicket, to the dismay of the bowlers from both sides, will likely be something similar to the one that we saw on Wednesday evening. If this is the case, then we hope that those in the crowd have brought hard hats with them. The team that bats first in this game will be looking to score at least 180-190 to be in the game.
Our Match Prediction
The West Indies have shown in this series so far just how much power hitting they have and that they bat deep. England have also shown that they have their own power hitters, but we feel that the West Indies will seal the series on Saturday because they have a more established and consistent side. There is a chance that England will make a number of changes, and this will have an impact on their fluidity. Also, we think this second-string seam attack of England's is not up to standard.
