Pakistan, it is fair to say, have been the team of the tournament so far. They have swatted aside all of their opponents and were the first side to book their place in the semi-final. Although, it must be said that they were in the easier group. Next up for Pakistan is a match against Scotland, and you do not need to be a rocket scientist to guess which way we think this match will go. Alas, please read on to find out.
Pakistan Team Preview
Pakistan, it goes without saying, are easily better than Scotland no matter how you try to spin it. We expect them to dominate the Scotland bowling attack and be absolutely ruthless with the ball too. This game will be played in Sharjah, and the wicket here has been conducive to spin, so betting on one of the Pakistani spin bowlers to finish at their team's top wicket-taker in the game is a good bet.
Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, and Shadab Khan are very likely to cause plenty of damage. However, their fast bowlers are really good and can get wickets on any surface. We would not be surprised if Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf ripped apart the Scottish batting lineup.
The Pakistan batting lineup has not really been tested in this tournament, and we do not think that they will be tested against the Scotland bowling attack either. You should consider putting some money on Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam getting the bulk of Pakistan's runs.
Scotland Team Preview
Scotland have lost all of their Super 12 matches to date, and we highly doubt that they will pull off any kind of upset against this strong Pakistan team. We have often seen associate nations struggle against quality spinners, and quality spin is exactly what they are going to face in this match.
The Scotland batting line does have some talented batsmen such as Michael Leask, Richie Berrington, and Matt Cross, but they are not good enough to compete with the top international players. In addition to this, we feel that their bowling attack is average at most. They did have some bright moments against New Zealand, but they were then demolished by India in their previous game. We think they are going to get a bit of a hammering against this talented Pakistan team too.
Toss Prediction
The team that wins the coin toss will more than likely opt to bowl first. This is an evening match, so dew will form in the second half, which could give the chasing team a big advantage due to the fact that the ball will come onto the bat better and the ball might be harder to grip because of it being wet.
Pitch and Conditions
The conditions will definitely be bowler-friendly and it could be challenging for the batters. There is not a lot of pace in this wicket, meaning it can tricky for batsmen to play their shots and the spin bowlers will get plenty of purchase off the surface. The team that bats first will probably be looking to score around 160 to give them a very good chance of winning.
Our Match Prediction
We are going to put our money on Pakistan to win this game because there really is no contest when it comes down to the quality of Pakistan and Scotland. If you put your money on Scotland, then you will just be hoping that Lady Luck is on your side. We really do not recommend you put money on Scotland to win for any reason, unless you have money to spare.
