Oman Team Preview

With a win against Papua New Guinea under their belts, Oman have pushed themselves into pole position. They were helped by the fact that they are playing at home in familiar conditions, but this should not take anything away from what was a great performance in their first game.

As it stands, Oman can afford to lose a game, but if they win then that will qualify them for the next round of the competition, which is what they will be looking to achieve. Oman's win against Papua New Guinea came off the back of great performances by Zeeshan Maqsood, Aqib Ilyas, and Jatinder Singh. Their other bowlers played their part, but their fielding looked a bit off, and this could hurt them against better opposition. Bangladesh fans will have been fuming at the nature of their 6-run defeat to the Scots, and this anger is well justified. Bangladesh are a good cricket team that came into the last match with a terrific win against Australia under their belts, but we think complacency and a bit of arrogance got the better of them.

As things stand, Bangladesh are third in table and need to win this match if they do not want an embarrassing early exit from the competition. Their 6-run defeat against Scotland does not tell the whole story of how rubbish they were in their first game.

Chasing a modest total of 11, Bangladesh lost Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar early and did not truly recover from those blows. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan did put together a nice partnership, but it came at a pedestrian pace. Also, they seemed to show little intent during the rebuilding phase, and this will have annoyed their fans greatly.

Bangladesh started off very well with the ball and had Scotland reeling at 53/7. However, their bowlers then bowled poorly at the death, and this eventually proved to the be the difference between the teams. This match is not only an opportunity for Bangladesh to stay in the chase, but also to sort out their XI. The weather conditions should be good for playing cricket, and so should the pitch.
