Our match prediction

Not many cricket fans would have imagined the 2021 T20 World Cup getting off to the start that it has. The fact that Scotland beat Bangladesh has definitely put the cat among the pigeons and now all the other teams will be on their toes entering their next games! Bangladesh definitely cannot afford another slip up against Oman if they are to keep their hopes of qualifying for the next stage of the competition. Who will win this crucial match, read the rest of this T20 World Cup prediction to find out.

Oman Team Preview

With a win against Papua New Guinea under their belts, Oman have pushed themselves into pole position. They were helped by the fact that they are playing at home in familiar conditions, but this should not take anything away from what was a great performance in their first game.

As it stands, Oman can afford to lose a game, but if they win then that will qualify them for the next round of the competition, which is what they will be looking to achieve. Oman's win against Papua New Guinea came off the back of great performances by Zeeshan Maqsood, Aqib Ilyas, and Jatinder Singh. Their other bowlers played their part, but their fielding looked a bit off, and this could hurt them against better opposition. Additionally, their middle order is yet to be tested, so it will be interesting to see how they fair against a better team.

Overall, it must be said that Oman have a decent team and plenty of talent available to them. They made a few mistakes in their first game, but they did not prove to be too costly. If they want to give Bangladesh a run for their money, then they will need to cut those out.

Bangladesh Team Preview

Bangladesh fans will have been fuming at the nature of their 6-run defeat to the Scots, and this anger is well justified. Bangladesh are a good cricket team that came into the last match with a terrific win against Australia under their belts, but we think complacency and a bit of arrogance got the better of them.

As things stand, Bangladesh are third in table and need to win this match if they do not want an embarrassing early exit from the competition. Their 6-run defeat against Scotland does not tell the whole story of how rubbish they were in their first game.

Chasing a modest total of 11, Bangladesh lost Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar early and did not truly recover from those blows. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan did put together a nice partnership, but it came at a pedestrian pace. Also, they seemed to show little intent during the rebuilding phase, and this will have annoyed their fans greatly.

Bangladesh started off very well with the ball and had Scotland reeling at 53/7. However, their bowlers then bowled poorly at the death, and this eventually proved to the be the difference between the teams. This match is not only an opportunity for Bangladesh to stay in the chase, but also to sort out their XI. For the most part, they looked good with the ball, but the batting looked unbalanced, and we are sure they will change some things around. For instance, there is a good chance that Mohammad Naim will come in to replace Sarkar.

Toss Prediction

The captain that wins the toss will most likely opt to bowl first. It can be tricky to defend a total on this small ground, so chasing is something that should be seen as a definite advantage. We would be surprised if the winning captain chose to bat first.

Pitch Conditions

The weather conditions should be good for playing cricket, and so should the pitch. When Oman played against Papua New Guinea, we saw plenty of pace and carry in the surface, and we are expecting more of the same in this match. If Oman lost the toss and are put into bat first, then they can put Bangladesh under all sorts of pressure if they manage to score around 170. It will be interesting to see how Bangladesh cope with the pressure if this is the case.

Our Match Prediction

While Oman have a pretty good cricket team, we think that Bangladesh should have enough to beat them and keep their hopes of qualification alive. In fact, it would be a huge shock if they were to lose and be eliminated from the tournament at this early stage. We think it has the makings of quite a close game, but with Bangladesh coming out on top.
